With rich water resources and convenient water irrigation facilities, Shilan Town has a long history of rice cultivation. The Zila Tribute Rice produced here is well-known.
Shilan Town has planted more than 13,000 mu (about 866.67 hectares) of rice this year, and more than 7,000 mu (about 466.67 hectares) of fields have been sowed.
With strong support from the government departments of Huayuan County, a special working team has been established to control the quality of tribute rice, unify packaging methods, enhance brand influence, and expand sales channels, achieving good results.
Currently, Zila Tribute Rice has been sold on multiple online platforms such as Daman E-commerce and in multiple physical supermarkets of Changsha City and Huayuan County. It has also established order-based supply cooperation with multiple enterprises.
The Miao people in Shilan Town have maintained a compound farming model of “rice, fish, ducks, birds, and frogs” for hundreds of years. Frogs and birds feed on pests, fish on weeds, and ducks on small fish and loaches, which can maintain the stabile paddy field ecosystem and ensure the healthy growth of rice throughout its entire growth cycle. This reflects the extraordinary wisdom of the Miao ancestors and also the ecological concept of farmers’ respect for nature.
Shilan Town is making efforts to promote industrial revitalization and boost villagers’ income.
